The Grid reference is from looking at the aerial photos. Look at these and you will see a terraced quarry and pillar if you follow the line of Park Road westwards into the strip of woodland.
However, It may be that the pillar is a little further down the valley on the Tarren Maerdy Escarpment somewhere above the cemetery at SS980972 (see picture). Driving up/down the valley the Pillar can be seen clearly standing out against the skyline.
