Rhossili Upper Crags

This area has seen considerable development from 2016 to 2018. There are now a plethora of short sports routes on newly developed crags along the cliff top between Trial Wall and Carbon Slab.

Of the trad climbing, Trial Wall provides the best routes. Most of the rest of the crags are small sports crags for the lower to middle-grade climbers.

Loose Rock! You should note that this is Gower and these are new routes. Whilst there has clearly been efforts made to clean the routes, there is bound to be loose rock for some time yet. Loose rock, when dislodged from either the crag face or from the foot of the crag, may fall and injure others. Climbers are asked to be considerate of other groups and individuals in the vicinity, e.g. coasteerers, fisherman, beachgoers, etc., and be exceedingly careful when climbing above others. Please Take Care!

Access to these crags can be tricky for the first-time visitor. The best way to familiarise yourself with these crags is to start at the base of Trial Wall and follow a path south-westwards passing all of the crags until you reach Carbon Slab. The difficulty is that the path is steep and narrow in places and is certainly not somewhere for small children or the very nervous.

Most of the crags, however, can be reached via the clifftop but it will be difficult for the visitor to find the precise location to leave the cliff top. Careful reading of the map on this page and use of GPS can help. Allow extra time and proceed with caution. Accidents have happened.

From the National Trust car park at Rhossili, head down the road that goes out towards 'The Worm'. Just after passing the NT shop on your left, pass through a gate and continue along the track for 0.75 km until the track takes a sharpish and short turn to the left. At this point you can scramble down some steep and narrow paths. Trial Wall is on your right.

To find your crag, type the name in to the Filter Markers box (top right corner of the map).
